Course Summary

This course is designed to build a firm foundation for our young actors as they begin their journey as a theatre artist. Students will be introduced to theatre terminology, play games that focus on specific elements of performance, and explore their expressive potential through storytelling exercises and projects. With a comfortable learning pace, a fun-loving environment, and an emphasis on working well together, this acting class is perfectly suited for our youngest artists.

Acting for Young Artists

Course Summary

This course serves as a next step for students who have previously taken Acting for Young Artists. Students will be able to apply their skills gained from the previous semester to a new class dedicated to understanding the process of putting on a show. Students will broaden their artistic capabilities through portraying different emotions, learning music, understanding a story, and using skills that contribute to a well-rounded performance. The stage is set for our newest group of stars!

Course Summary

This course serves as an in-depth introduction to the craft of acting. All students will be introduced to beginning acting techniques to develop, define, and practice artistic expression with technical proficiency. Students will learn to use the voice and body as instruments of self-expression and communication in performance and will develop their mental, physical and vocal flexibility. Students will be challenged to expand their expressive potential as they exercise body, voice, and imagination through improvisation, acting with words, acting without words, ensemble work, characterization, experimentation, acting exercises, and monologues.

Course Summary

This is Artisan’s most advanced acting course. Applying the concepts understood from Acting I and Acting II, students will go above and beyond with characterization, scene study, monologues, and improvisation. This course will challenge students’ artistic capabilities and encourage them to make strong, committed choices as actors through in-depth preparation and performance opportunities.

Course Summary

Building off the fundamentals learned in Film Acting I, this advanced course will continue your screen acting journey by showing you how to begin building a professional career in the film and television industry. In addition to your film acting training, you will learn how to build your acting resume, your reel, getting the right headshots, preparing for film, TV, and commercial auditions and how to take control of your own career by creating your own content.

Think Fast: Improvisation

Course Summary

This course will serve students interested in performing in musicals or plays with a musical element. Students will explore acting techniques that apply directly to song, increase their knowledge of musical theatre vocal styles, understand the process of selecting pieces for their audition repertoire, and understand that the story of the song comes first. Students are expected to purchase and bring their own sheet music and binder to class.

*Curriculum varies from Fall to Spring, so students enrolled in the Fall are encouraged to enroll again to extend their training.

Musical Theater Performance

Course Summary

This dance class is for the student who wishes to learn the basic principles of the musical theater dance style. Students will learn basic technique, musicality, and how to learn and perform a dance combination with energy and theatricality to some of Broadway’s greatest hits. Dancers are responsible for providing their own shoes (character shoes, jazz shoes, tennis shoes, etc), wearing comfortable and modest clothing to move in, and keeping hair pulled back out of the face

Course Summary

Dancers will refine their training in musical theatre dance styles through heightened combination difficulty, fast-paced classroom environment, and choreography inspired by some of Broadway’s most well-known dance shows. Students will be challenged to pick up choreography at an increased rate, challenge their basic technique with more intricate steps, and utilize their facial expressions and physical energy to portray characters as if they were preparing for a Broadway dance audition. Dancers are responsible for providing their own shoes (character shoes, jazz shoes, tennis shoes, etc), wearing comfortable and modest clothing to move in, and keeping hair pulled back out of the face.

Course Summary

This course is catered towards advanced dancers who want to express their creativity through choreography. Dancers will explore various styles of dance within musical theater (jazz, tap, etc) and use those skills to create choreography and get feedback from an experienced instructor. Students will collaborate with each other, be challenged to think outside of the box, and grow in their craft as dancers and future choreographers. This course is designed to prepare students to choreograph for Artisan Children’s Theater, Artisan’s Main Stage, and beyond.
